Information Concerning Changes to the Start of School
“Dear Parents and Guardians of Richton Students-
The Richton School District would like to make you aware of some changes to the start of school as well as a few changes to how the school day will start. The changes are explained below.
First, the school district has pushed the start date back for students to Monday, August 10th. The purpose for this short delay is to include additional staff development days for our faculty and staff to prepare for the upcoming school year and to ensure that all procedures are in place for what will be a very different start to the year.
Next, we would like to announce that WE WILL offer an online, virtual learning option to all students in grades 4-12. For any parent or student in grades 4-12 that does not need to attend school in-person due to medical and/or other reasons regarding COVID, we are offering this option as an alternative. This option does include some restrictions and guidelines that have to be followed if you are wanting to take advantage of the virtual learning option. You must register online or in person with the Richton School District before you can be approved for virtual learning. You will find the guidelines and application for virtual learning below. If you are choosing the VIRTUAL PLATFORM, please read the guidelines carefully and decide whether this option is the best for your student/child. These documents can be picked up in the front office of schools as well.
Another point to note is that we will not be allowed to let students access water fountains in the hallways. With this in mind, we encourage all parents to send students to school with at least one plastic water bottle (or a couple if they think they will need more than one) so that students can have water throughout the day.
Lastly, in order to ensure that we are allowing enough time and proper safety precautions for serving breakfast as well as the added time we will need during class changes at the upper levels, we will start our school day at 7:45AM instead of the usual 8:00AM. Tardies will now be counted at 7:45AM. Student’s first period teachers/homeroom teachers will be contacting you starting August 5th to alert you what classroom your student needs to report to on the first day of school.
We hope that this information is helpful. As usual, please contact the school if you have any questions and continue to check the district Facebook page and our school website for new information.”
